Dayfoot is a band from Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada.
In March 2016 the band formed with drummer Stephen Dayfoot, bassist TJ Waldie, guitarist/vocalist Vincent Schaljo, and guitarist/vocalist Douglas Richard Sinclair. Sinclair, a descendant of the Métis Nation, chose to name the band after long time friend Stephen Dayfoot, a descendant of the Nehiyaw (Cree Nation). Spirited by a vast spectrum of influences ranging from country blues to grunge rock, their sound had found its skeleton.
In November 2016 the band recorded with John Dinsmore at Lincoln County Social Club in Toronto, Ontario. They released their singles Into The Sun and Standing Rock digitally at their record club release show in January 2017. The band released their first 7″ vinyl record featuring Into The Sun and Standing Rock at their vinyl release show in May 2017.
As of June 2017, the band has embarked on an indefinite hiatus due to unforeseen circumstances. The band is selling the remainder of their vinyl and donating 100% of the proceeds to the “I Am Affected” Campaign of Halton Hills. The Halton campaign will include 6 unique posters that feature the faces of different Indigenous people from Halton affected by the Residential School System.
